Elephants and Coral Umbrellas: Nursery Decor

Monday, October 17, 2011

One of my good friends and sorority sisters from college is about to have a baby girl.  You might know her from her blog Our B.V.I Adventure.  She has designed the CUTEST baby girl's room ever and I wanted to post.  Here are some pics and the details.

I am loving Spoonflower!  Maybe my next new thing is going to be designing fabric ;)

Go vote for her room over at Project Nursery!  She could be the featured room for the month!

ABOUT AMELIA...
My husband and I are expecting our first child in October 2011. We live in Knoxville, Tennessee and the British Virgin Islands. Fortunately, we are stateside for the birth of our baby girl, surrounded by family and friends. And when that snow begins to fall, we will head back to the Caribbean for a 6-month stint!

White: My new favorite balance of color!

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Right now I am into white.  I still need my splashes of color but white (especially white walls) seems to make everything so
modern, crisp and clean.

Did you know: White is a balance of color in light. The colors impinge and overlay upon each other in such perfection that a wonderful composite emerges. We call the composite: white.

When you see white, you see all the colors in balance.

Navy and Orange Boy's Room.

Monday, April 4, 2011

The Babes room is done.  It was our "Casita" for guest but with 3 kiddos now in the house we had to use the space.  My goal was to keep a king sized bed in the room so we could still have company.

I became obsessed with finding the perfect color navy and the right shade of orange to compliment it.  I looked long and hard to find all the accents that give the room the pop it needed.
The navy wall paint is Behr (Home Depot) Nocturnal Sea.
I  tried like 10 plus colors my hubby thinks I am crazy...but he loved it ;)

It is now my favorite room in the house.
People can come and stay with us and the baby still has his own space.

I think my favorite find was his crib.  It is a the Bam/Bassinet and Crib System.  It was more modern then I have gone before but it was really reasonably priced and bassinet expands into a full crib when he is bigger.  It has wheels to move him into our room and around the house...
It was so easy to put together I did it myself in like 30 mins.

Hope he loves it ;)

Day 14
The New Christmas issue of Lonny is out and it is AWESOME!
I am totally in love with how this whole house is decorated and Lily and I really like this pink tree!

Aren't the colors in this room amazing!
I am loving the the contrast of the blue wall with all of the decorations.
I am really into all shades of blue right now...

A Holiday Table Setting to die for!
I love that it looks like a winter wonderland but uses soft colors
(not your typical Christmas reds and greens)

Day 22...Fresh Wreaths and Garland...

Friday, December 3, 2010

I love the smell of Christmas trees. It just makes it seem like the holidays. We have not gotten our tree yet...we are waiting till this weekend but I have ordered some fresh garland to put around the inside of my door.  I got mine from www.Costco.com but they're are lots of other great places too.  This is a great way to get that Christmas smell if you do a fake tree.
This is what I ordered from www.Costco.com
Topiaries from PotteryBarn

Lit Boxwood Wreath from Potterybarn
Boxwood Pine Garland from www.Christmas Farms.com

A bee in my bonnet.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

I get a bee in my bonnet if the house is not organized.  I can't help it.  It messes with my mind.  I am a very visual person so if a space is not perfect it will bug me till it's fixed.  We have a "multi-purposed/ girl's playroom"  that just always seems to be messy so last week I was determined to get it cleaned up and organized. I gave a way a ton of toys that they no longer play with and rearranged the ones they do.  I also wanted to make the space a little more playful and colorful for them.
BEFORE.  YIKES!
AFTER.  SO MUCH BETTER!
Here's are the simple little things I did.

I really thought about the space and how it could be used better so I moved the furniture around to open the room.  Lily loves that she can now sit and use the table.

I made these galvanized tins for her to put stickers, markers and other craft stuff in.  These are easy to make.  You can find the tins at any craft store (sometimes you can find them at $1 Spot at Target.) I also picked up big stickers the ones used for selling your home or car and used them to label the tins. Then I glued little rhinestones on them for color.

I thought you could even drill these into the wall if you wanted.

I added these playful colored dots to their bookshelf.  They are removable. It gives the room  little splash of color.

I also made them some personalized artwork.

All you need is a canvas, the lettering (decals) that you would like and mod podge.

Good ole' Mod Podge.  Use to get crazy with this stuff while in art school ;)

I got the  decals from Target but you can get them from anywhere: Michaels, Homegoods, Etsy.

I spaced the letters where I wanted them and then mod podged them underneath and then on top!  Making sure to do the whole canvas so it looks smooth.  Did a "Lily and Claire's Room of Play" and "Create * Imagine" for Lily's desk.

Last thing  I bought each of them a personalized bean bag chairs from Pottery Barn Kids.
They love them Lily will chill in this bean bag every morning watching tv with her blanket and gives me and the hubby an extra 30 minutes of sleep!  Priceless!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Dont' forget about blog hop.  Goes till Tuesday night;)

Anna Sova Edible (well almost ;) Paint

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

When Lily was born I was looked long and hard for a paint that was eco-friendly.
I found an awesome brand called Anna Sova.
Not only does the paint smell like yummy yogurt it also comes in the best color palate I have found.

These are the colors I picked for her room.  They go perfect together.
Saksberry for the walls and Tahiti for her ceiling with clouds.

Anna Sova paint is made with up to 94% food ingredients.
patented zero VOC, food-based paint is easy to use
applies & protects like standard paint and scrubs easily
made with milk casein (as used in milkshakes)
titanium dioxide (as in powdered donuts)
food grade bamboo cellulose (as in fiber bars)

Here's a little video I found on their website that explains about non-voc paint.
OHHH...and PS they have really good customer service too!
